…d balance, no lens support needed! How USABLE is it? Yes, 9.5-57mm also vignettes at the wide end as can be seen in the video above, but from 17mm, sensor coverage is pretty much the same as on 17-68mm. In addition to that you still have the flexibility to go much wider if needed. Vignetting is almost invisible with a 2.35:1 aspect crop, which we often use anyway, or can be hidden with a 5-10% timeline crop and once you get over 25mm no correction… Continue Reading

…I never find myself needing a wider lens. There is also another type of vignette at play with the Sankor, I call it the white vignette. Essentially when a strong light hits the lens it reflects on the inside of the barrel and causes light to flare and bloom in a vignette shape around the edges of your image. Sometimes this flare can look nice but often I find it can be too strong and distracting, so you may need to find a different angle if you do… Continue Reading
…nd aperture rings. The original mount on these (MKI) lenses is ARRI B (bayonet) and my set currently has this mount, but in future I’m planning to fit PL adapters (removable mounts) on them for better compatibility with various cameras. Some of these lenses you’ll find on ebay will already have PL mounts fitted on to them, which will potentially save you $100-200 on removable PL mounts. My set has also been modded with 80mm fronts and metal follow… Continue Reading

…until someone actually try it. Today I came across a new post from an Internet friend, fellow vintage lens fan, a talented filmmaker & blogger Peter Prevec how has tested this lens on the actual camera, so I couldn’t resist and had to feature his video here along with some of his thought about this lens. Here’s what Peter has to say about this lens: The Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon with a range from 18 to 90mm on a Pocket Camera with a 3x crop fac… Continue Reading
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5pTJGEFo3k This is yet another great lens test video I found on youtube that proves how great vintage lenses are. This Asahi Super-Takumar 50mm f/1.4 lens test was shot by a filmmaker Stefano Rinaldo with a Sony VG10 camcorder. The VG10 is not considered to be a very popular camera, but with a combination of great glass and great light he produced some amazing looking images, which proves that there is much more to… Continue Reading
